Robert Giles | Partner, CE Venture Capital

Prior to CE Venture Capital, a venture capital fund focused on New Energy and Emerging Technologies across North America, Robert had over 20 years of experience in investment banking, mergers & acquisitions, corporate advisory and financial structuring focusing on the energy sector. He’s been involved in the completion of over $15 billion of transactions (including financing and M&A) at CIBC Capital Markets and Dundee Securities.

 

David Eigenseher | Legal Counsel, Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund

As Senior Legal Counsel, Investments, David supports Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund Board’s internal clients including the CIO, and CEO as an advisor on legal affairs with respect to the investment management function and general corporate and regulatory compliance of ATRF. David work closely with ATRF’s internal investment teams, including Private Equity, Infrastructure, Real Estate, Absolute Returns, Derivatives and the External Management group to facilitate investment transactions and decisions. David is responsible for the on-going legal and regulatory requirements associated with ATRF’s investment portfolio.

Dan McEleney | Co-founder, Gfycat

Dan is a co-founder and operations manager at Gfycat. He has extensive experience in project management in the technology sector, including medtech company Haemonetics. An avid redditor, Dan noticed the advent of the GIF on Reddit in lieu of videos. His frustration with the low-quality, slow-loading GIFs he saw led to the creation of Gfycat. His engagement with the Reddit community led to Gfycat’s viral adoption among redditors, leading to Gfycat’s organic growth to over 200 million monthly active users.

 

Marcela Mandeville | CEO, Alberta Women Entrepreneurs

Marcela has explored the world of business through a globally-focused business undergraduate degree, designation as a Certified International Trade Professional and more than fifteen years of global experience developing and implementing business strategies.

Marcela’s business experience in Canada and abroad led her to Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) in 2008. As Chief Operating Officer, she developed programs to support access to local and international business opportunities for women entrepreneurs. After leaving AWE in August 2013 Marcela resumed her role as CEO of her own business consulting firm, Bright Idea International and completed her MBA studies at the University of Alberta. In July 2015, Marcela returned to AWE to work with an amazing team after time spent leading her own business, volunteering and traveling in Central and South America, and exploring beautiful beaches and the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Southern California with her dog Cally.

Marcela believes strongly in continuous learning and contributing to the community.  She is the former Board Chair for Literacy without Borders, a member of the AIESEC Edmonton Advisory Board as well as an animal care volunteer at the Edmonton Humane Society. In 2012, Marcela was honoured to be chosen as one of Avenue’s Top 40 under 40 in Edmonton.

 

Teruel A. Carrasco | Partner, Radar Endeavor Group

Teruel has founded or co-founded several technology startups. His methodical approach has assisted companies in successfully entering international markets including the U.S, South America and the EU. A passionate technology enthusiast, Teruel excels at creating business and marketing campaigns for new technologies, driving sales for his clients.

Teruel has led expansion to Silicon Valley, has an established network, and has led a series A fund raising round.

Teruel is on the advisory board of several Edmonton-based startups and participates in the UofA alumni VMS (Venture Mentoring Service).  

Teruel is a partner in the boutique equity firm Radar Endeavor Group Inc. and an executive in residence at NABI.

Pieter Boekhoff | Founder and CEO, Nobal Technologies

Pieter is the 2018 Manning Innovation Award Finalist, 2016 Startup Canada Entrepreneur of the Year (Prairies), one of Calgary’s Top 40 Under 40 (2014), Mount Royal Horizon Award Winner (2014), One of Canada’s 10 “Mentor Rock Stars” (2013), Globe and Mail Top 20 up and coming Entrepreneurs (2012), Breakout Business of the Year Finalist (2012), Small Business of the Year Finalist (2013).

Pieter has a Computer Science Degree with a Minor in Entrepreneurship and is the Founder of Nobal Technologies, a technology company bent on changing the way people interact with their world. Nobal's primary focus is the development, distribution and sale of their flagship product, The iMirror™.

Pieter also founded AcceleratorYYC, a non profit organization for the support, mentorship, and development of entrepreneurs in Calgary and Alberta. AcceleratorYYC recently merged with Startup Calgary, where Pieter now volunteers on the board, championing entrepreneurship and technology startups in Calgary and Alberta. The AcceleratorYYC project has parlayed into a bustling Community and Coworking Space for entrepreneurs called The Collective 12|12, and a new non-profit initiative called The Accelerator., Calgary's first accelerator program focused on high growth startups which launched it's first cohort in the fall of 2016. 

As the proud Alumni recipient of the prestigious Mount Royal University Horizon Award Pieter is a strong advocate for youth and student empowerment, leadership and entrepreneurship, volunteering his time to mentor university students and startup entrepreneurs. 

Pieter focuses most of his charitable efforts as a passionate advocate for the education and awareness of the need for organ and kidney donation through the Kidney Foundation of Canada and the Kidney March.
